Work Injury Dos and Don'ts

DOs

  • Do Immediately notify your boss or supervisor that you had an injury.

  • Do ask your boss or supervisor for medical treatment.

  • Do go to the medical facility as soon as possible.

  • Do tell the medical provider that you were injured at work.

  • Do tell the medical provider what your injury is and mention all the body parts injured.

  • Do request copies of all reports the doctor completes regarding your treatment.

  • Do notify your boss or supervisor about your work status is i.e. cannot work or if you have work restriction(s).

  • Do take pictures of your injury.

DON'Ts

  • Don’t wait to notify your boss or supervisor about the accident.

  • Don’t wait to get medical attention at the medical facility the employer tells you to go to.

  • Don’t delay medical treatment if it is an emergency.  Go to the emergency room but notify your boss or supervisor as soon as possible.

  • Don’t discuss information about your accident and treatment on the internet.
